Strong Victorian Contingent For Awsr Title

This weekend’s AWSR National Title at Mount Gambier’s Borderline Speedway has attracted a stellar entry list, headed up by a total of 37 Victorian competitors.
Reigning Victorian champion Jeff Judd and Warrnambool’s Steve Trigg are expected to lead the way in the hunt for title glory, with both drivers having podium finishes at their most recent visits to the venue in January.
Defending Australia two Bradley Warren, newly crowned Parr Motorsports Super Six Series champion Phil Micallef and multiple series round winner Luke Weel are likely to give the #1 a shake, along with the ever present Mark Walsh and Mark Balcombe, who should also feature prominently.
Andy Caruana is another driver to show good car speed of late, while Andy Hibbert and Jye Saunders have both finished inside the top ten on two occasions at Mount Gambier this season.
Allansford’s Gary Bell is the current Australia three and along with former Sprintcar ace Phil Johnson and ex-Junior Sedan Victorian champion James Gardiner could play a significant role in the outcome this weekend.
David McKay is a multiple feature winner this season and fellow eastern Victorian drivers Dan Dubois and Dan Robson will also look to mix it at the front.
Former Victorian champion Paul Robilliard will shoot for glory, as will Brendan Balcombe, who qualified on pole position for the 2009 edition of this event. The Meade boys – Lee and Damien have recently completed the Parr Motorsports Super Six Series inside the top ten and will look to continue their good form at the racy 372 metre venue.
Eleven home state racers including Mount Gambier’s own reigning champion Rory Button and fellow hometown star Adam Sealey are in contention, along with 2010 South Australian champion Todd Wigzell of Adelaide, while Murray Bridge resident Mason Merritt claimed a series victory at Borderline Speedway in November.
Two West Australians will journey across the Nullarbor, with Lee Nash and Lee Redmond both showing strong form at home recently, while New South Wales champion Adam Butler and Queenslander Brent Aprile lead the hopes of their respective states.
Each driver will contest three heats on Saturday night with the top 18 cars competing in a 20-lap preliminary A-Main. The final round of heats will be held on Sunday night followed by dashes for the top 16 qualifiers along with D, C and B-Mains and the all important 35-lap championship decider.
