The Judd Show Rolls Into Victory Lane
Author : NSDAI
Reigning Victorian champion Jeff Judd has taken out the penultimate round of the Parr Motorsports Super Six Series at Warrnambool’s Sungold Stadium on Saturday night.
A quality field of 35 Australian Wingless Sprints greeted the high banks, with differing track conditions throughout the night producing plenty of passing.
It was Judd who was high points following a win and a third in heat racing and elected to start from the outside of row number one, with Steve Hodder putting in arguably the best performance of his career to begin the 20-lap journey alongside. Last start Warrnambool feature winner David McKay qualified third, with Jye Saunders on the outside of row two, while Scott Drew and defending Australian champion Rory Button made up the third row. Grovedale’s Andy Hibbert started from seventh with series points leader Phil Micallef completing the top eight qualifiers.
Judd jumped to the lead as the race went green with McKay quickly moving into second. The only caution period for the event occurred just five laps in, with Glenn Watts spinning to a stop in turn one.
At the resumption, it was all Judd out front while McKay also managed to gap the chasing pack. Button was on a mission as he grabbed third with Steve Hodder defending his fourth position well.
Bradley Warren was on a charge after winning the B-Main, using the extreme outside of the track as he made his way into fifth. Wheel to wheel action was a feature of the event as the mid-pack runners diced for positions the entire journey.
As the chequers fell it was Judd claiming a comfortable victory ahead of McKay and Button, with Hodder crossing the line in fourth. Warren ended the race fifth, followed by Micallef, Luke Weel and Saunders rounding out the top eight. Andy Caruana and James Wren were next home after transferring from the B-Main, followed by Drew, Gary Bell, Damien Meade, Hibbert and Lee Meade the last of the finishers.
An 18 car B-Main over 15 laps was jam-packed with big names. Along with Warren, Wren and Caruana, Damien Meade was the other driver to transfer to the main event. Sean McKeever can count himself extremely unlucky after holding down the fourth spot until two laps from home when tenth starting Caruana made his move to snare the final berth. The sole red light for the evening was brought about in the early stages of the race when Mark Walsh looped his Maxim in turn three, with Steve Trigg and Tim Fisher making subsequent contact which resulted in Trigg and Fisher both upending their machines.
Heat wins on the night were taken out by Drew, Hibbert, Judd, Saunders, Hodder and McKay.
The sixth and final round of the Parr Motorsports Super Six Series heads to Horsham’s Blue Ribbon Raceway this Saturday night.
